Light:Guard improves IT and monitoring systems thanks to EU support

24th March 2025

Light:Guard GmbH has successfully completed a digitization project with the support of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Over a period from June 24, 2024 to March 31, 2025, the central web application OWL was comprehensively expanded to simplify processes, improve data-based decisions and to control maintenance tasks automatically in the future.

OWL stands for “Overview for Windfarms and LCUs” and is an in-house monitoring tool from Light:Guard that can be used to access operating statuses and reports from individual wind farms and Light Control Units. Light:Guard customers can use their personal access to monitor their own parks. The tool was developed in recent years and is now nearing completion.

Before the project began, many work processes were still time-consuming and not very automated:

  • Monitoring: log files were stored decentrally and had to be checked manually
  • Error analysis: relevant system messages could only be prioritized on a random basis
  • Maintenance planning: deadlines were managed individually, which made coordination more difficult

As part of the project, Light:Guard was able to fundamentally improve the processes:

  • Automated error detection– log files are now stored centrally and analyzed systematically, allowing critical messages to be identified and prioritized more quickly. This relieves the burden on technical support in particular, which can now react more quickly to system events
  • Integrated reporting – Instead of compiling individual reports manually, customers and the support team can now access automatically generated reports at the click of a mouse
  • Optimization of maintenance team workflows – All maintenance deadlines are now centrally managed and automated reminders ensure efficient implementation of planned actions
  • Geographical visualization – Thanks to the integration of external map services, correlations between systems can now be clearly displayed for project management and sales in one platform

Thanks to its location in Saxony, Light:Guard benefits from targeted funding for innovative digitization projects. The support of the European Union has made it possible to drive technological progress, sustainably improve operational processes and further strengthen the company’s own market position. At the same time, the project contributes to digital development in the region.

Co-financed by the European Union.
