To make it easier for wind farm operators to switch to Aircraft Detection Lighting Systems (ADLS), the Nordex Group and Light:Guard GmbH have developed a joint solution, ADLS-Ready. The Nordex Group and Quantec Sensors GmbH, Light:Guard’s sister company, have been working together on ADLS since March 2020.
The core of this cooperation agreement is the equipping of wind farms with Nordex turbines with the light:guard system for Aircraft Detection Lighting System. This step ensures that the upgrades to the communication and lighting infrastructure of the wind farms in question, as required by the General Administrative Regulation for the Marking of Aviation Obstacles (AVV), are carried out. Light:Guard’s Light Control Units (LCU) are already being used as an interface for connecting ADLS systems.
“The concept developed together with Nordex enables the ADLS-ready Nordex turbines to be directly integrated into the light:guard system without the purchase of additional hardware,” explains Alexander Gerdes, managing director of Light:Guard GmbH. This means that the system can be offered at attractive prices.”
With the conversion to ADLS-Ready, existing Nordex wind farms meet all the requirements of the AVV and the Energy Collection Act when combined with the transponder-based light:guard system for Aircraft Detection Lighting Systems.
“All the technical, legal and organizational interfaces between the light:guard system for signal provision and ADLS-Ready for upgrading Nordex wind turbines are clearly defined and coordinated. This means that, if we are commissioned in a timely manner, we can ensure that all Nordex turbines are equipped with AVV-compliant infrastructure, including signal delivery, by the legal deadline of December 31, 2022,” says Maik Haas, Head of Upgrades & Modernizations at the Nordex Group.
