Press Release: Light:Guard provides unlimited internet data for wind farms in cooperation with WEtell

Isernhagen, 12th January 2023

Light:Guard GmbH has launched a partnership with the sustainable mobile communications provider WEtell GmbH. The aim of this cooperation is to provide unlimited data volume for industrial applications in wind farms. This means that mobile Internet can be provided via the Light:Guard customer router to operators who equip their wind farm with our Aircraft Detection Lighting System (ADLS) and do not have sufficient Internet available.

Many wind farms suffer from the problem of insufficient or no internet access – often due to their rural location. However, reliable internet access is required for web-based services such as the light:guard Aircraft Detection Lighting System, as the signals for controlling the lighting at the wind farm are transmitted via VPN.

“A lack of internet access was often the obstacle to implementing ADLS,” explains Willi Lehmann, CEO of Light:Guard. ”That’s why we looked for a simple and reliable solution that we could offer wind farm operators. We found this in the form of WEtell as a partner.”

This solution now works as follows: Operators conclude a telecommunications contract directly with WEtell and receive an unlimited data volume in the Vodafone network each month. At the same time, Light:Guard provides the option of equipping the interface to the wind farm with an LTE connection to receive the mobile data via a SIM card there.

Alma Spribille, CEO at WEtell, comments on the collaboration with Light:Guard GmbH: “The expansion of renewable energies is very important to us personally and as a company. We are therefore pleased to now be able to contribute to the generation of wind energy together with Light:Guard. We are very much looking forward to working with them.”

The mobile phone provider WEtell GmbH, based in Freiburg im Breisgau, has set itself the task of promoting climate protection in the industry. The company implements this primarily through its climate-neutral tariff offer, but also by investing in solar energy systems and cooperating with other companies.
